Emergency Fund Donations Needed

Dear Animal Ark Supporter,

In the spirit of compassion and solidarity, we reach out to you with an urgent plea for help. At Animal Ark, our mission is to provide a safe haven for animals in need, offering them love, shelter, and essential medical care. Today, we come to you with heavy hearts and an urgent request.

Our emergency fund, essential for providing immediate care to animals in critical conditions, has been drained.

Last year unfolded with unprecedented challenges for us. We confronted a staggering increase in medical expenses, totaling $90,000, nearly tripling our usual costs. This unexpected surge was primarily due to unforeseen circumstances: our dedicated veterinarian, the backbone of our medical team, was hospitalized, leaving us with overwhelming bills and depleted resources. Adding to the strain, a surge of injured animals were dropped off at our doorstep, only to find our doors closed, intensifying the emotional and financial burden we carried.

We are now at a crucial juncture where we must appeal to your generosity to help us rebuild this vital resource.

Your support is invaluable. By replenishing our emergency fund, you empower us to respond swiftly to emergencies, rescue animals in distress, and provide life-saving medical treatment to those who need it most. Your donation will directly impact the lives of countless animals, offering them a chance at a brighter, healthier future.

One of the most touching facets of our emergency medical fund lies in its ability to reach out and aid rescues like Amber, Autumn, Rocco, Rosie, Molly, and Fergus. Their stories, etched with resilience and hope, are tenderly recounted below. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Here’s how your donation can help:

  • $30: Provides essential medications for sick animals in our care.
  • $100: Helps us purchase specialized medical equipment for critical surgeries.
  • $230: Covers the cost of emergency veterinary examinations.
  • $250: Supports the treatment and rehabilitation of injured or abused animals.
  • $500: Enables us to offer life-saving surgeries for animals facing life-threatening conditions.

Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of animals in need. Your kindness and generosity can transform despair into hope, suffering into healing, and abandonment into love.

We humbly ask you to consider extending a helping hand, whether through a one-time donation or becoming a Beloved Guardian, committed to supporting our furry friends throughout the year. You can join us in our mission today by visiting our website at animalarkmn.org or sending your contribution directly to Animal Ark, P.O. Box 734, Hastings, MN 55033. Your generosity sustains us and brings hope and comfort to the Rescues we cherish dearly. Thank you for being a beacon of light in their lives.

Thank you for standing with us in our mission to provide compassionate care to those who need it most. Together, we are their voice, their hope, and their champions.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Animal Ark

Molly’s journey began in the warmth of August, arriving at Animal Ark, cradling her five precious puppies. Despite her nurturing spirit, Molly arrived frail, her body struggling to sustain itself while nursing her pups. With tender care, we separated Molly from her litter, prioritizing her well-being above all else. Witnessing her gradual recovery as she regained the strength she so desperately needed was both a relief and a testament to the resilience of motherhood.

Yet, our joy was short-lived as we discovered a troubling lump protruding from Molly’s vulva post-spaying. Memories of a past encounter with transmissible venereal tumors (TVT) resurfaced, casting a shadow of concern over Molly’s fate. Swift action led us to biopsy the lump, confirming our worst fears: Molly was indeed afflicted with TVT.

In January, Molly’s journey took her to the halls of the University of Minnesota, where she underwent examinations in preparation for chemotherapy. Hope glimmered on the horizon despite the disheartening news of the lump’s return. While TVTs are a rarity, the prognosis often holds promise; chemotherapy offers a pathway to healing. With each treatment, we hold onto the belief that Molly will overcome this obstacle, her resilience shining brighter than her challenges.

As Molly embarks on her journey towards recovery, the road ahead is paved with hope and financial strain. The costs of her treatments loom large, totaling close to $3,000. Yet, amidst the uncertainties, our commitment to Molly’s well-being remains unwavering.

In the tender embrace of science and compassion, we stand by Molly, offering not just treatments but a beacon of hope amidst the storm. In her journey, we find both the depth of scientific understanding and the boundless capacity of the human heart to heal.

Fergus’s Journey

In the spring of 2022, Fergus, a vibrant 9-month-old kitten brimming with joy and vitality, entered the doors of Animal Ark. His playful antics and spirited demeanor endeared him to all who crossed his path. Yet, in the chill of November, a shadow descended upon his sunny disposition as Fergus experienced what appeared to be his inaugural focal seizure.

With unwavering dedication, our medical team delved into the depths of Fergus’s condition, conducting meticulous bloodwork in pursuit of answers. Despite the veil of normalcy cast by the results, Fergus continued to grapple with relentless seizures in the weeks that followed. In a bid to alleviate his suffering, we initiated Fergus on a regimen of seizure medication, hopeful for a reprieve from his torment.

However, the tide of Fergus’s fortunes took a tumultuous turn as the medication wrought unforeseen changes in his demeanor. Once a beacon of affection, Fergus recoiled from human touch, his once-joyful spirit dimmed by the shadows of his affliction. As the seasons shifted, Fergus’s journey led him to the hallowed halls of the University of Minnesota, where the luminaries of neurology sought to unravel the enigma of his condition.

In the echoes of their deliberations, a sad truth emerged: Fergus’s plight was rooted in the tendrils of a mysterious degenerative disease, manifesting in seizures, hallucinations, compulsions, and suspected pain. With compassionate resolve, the University gave us a roadmap of medications, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness, offering Fergus a glimpse of normalcy amidst the chaos.

Yet, this beacon comes at a cost, a testament to the lengths we’ll traverse to ensure our cherished companions find solace in their twilight hours. For Fergus and countless others, we pledge our unwavering devotion, bridging the realms of science and compassion to alleviate suffering and restore dignity to those who grace our lives with their presence.

Autumn and Amber’s Journey

In September of 2023, Animal Ark received a voicemail from a blocked caller alerting us to a pet carrier located down the street from our building that contained two dogs. We rushed out to find two French Bulldogs, now known as Autumn and Amber, in a rather bad state. We bathed them to check for any physical injuries and discovered that they appeared largely ok, aside from the fact that their legs appeared to bend at unnatural angles. Over their first few days, we noticed they were leaking poop, and they seemed oblivious to the fact that they were eliminating. We tested their stool, found they had intestinal parasites, and treated them immediately. We hoped this would solve their leakage issues, but no such luck. We then went to Hastings Vet to get the pair examined. Hastings Vet was able to tell us that Autumn and Amber had hip dysplasia and Amber had scoliosis, but they recommended an endoscopy to figure out the leakage issue. We were fortunate to receive a referral to the University of Minnesota for the pair to be seen there so we could figure out the mystery cause of their leakage. Their diagnosis still needs to be clarified, but the University of Minnesota has given us a few options, but they are quite expensive. We have the option to do a fecal transplant or to do a colonoscopy. The fecal transplant would cost around $700 per dog, and the colonoscopy would cost around $2,000 per dog. We are still weighing our options but need help from our supporters to help with this.

Rocco and Rosie arrived at Animal Ark’s doorstep on a scorching summer day, tucked in a pet carrier left amidst the heat’s relentless embrace. A chance glance from a passing volunteer unveiled their presence, revealing two precious French Bulldog puppies, their plight concealed within the sweltering confines of the carrier.

With urgency as our ally, we whisked Rocco and Rosie to safety, their young lives imperiled by prolapsed rectums demanding immediate attention. Hastings Vet, recognizing the gravity of their situation, extended their expertise, performing purse string sutures to alleviate their suffering. Yet, fate’s cruel hand saw Rocco and Rosie succumb once more to the insidious grasp of prolapse, their innocence eclipsed by the shadow of recurrent affliction.

Emergencies unfolded on weekends, plunging us into a whirlwind of desperation as we raced against time to secure the vital surgeries they desperately needed. The toll of each operation, a testament to the staggering cost of compassion, stretched our resources thin, with each expenditure nearing the $1,000 mark.

It was only through the grace of coloplexy, a beacon of hope amidst despair, that Rocco and Rosie found respite from their torment. Priced at $1,500 per dog, the procedure heralded a newfound dawn, offering solace in uncertainty. Yet, the specter of relapse looms large, casting a pall over their fragile existence, while Rosie’s battle with hip dysplasia threatens to add another layer of complexity to their journey.

In the embrace of our sanctuary, Rocco and Rosie find refuge, their once-fractured spirits mending with each passing day. Though shadows linger on the horizon, we remain steadfast in our commitment to their well-being, drawing strength from the unwavering support of our community.

As autumn’s embrace heralds the arrival of new beginnings, our resolve remains unshaken, for Rocco and Rosie are not just survivors—they are beacons of resilience, illuminating the path toward a brighter tomorrow.
