An important message from our Executive Manager, Lorraine Royal.
In facing the Coronavirus crisis as a nation, we are reminded of what we hold dearest: our loved ones. Each night we go to bed thinking of new and better ways we can keep our loved ones safe, and hope that all those we hold dear will survive this pandemic unscathed.
With certainty, we know that this too shall pass, yet what isn’t certain is how it will pass. Personally, I believe the “How” is equally as important—if not more important—than the surviving itself. For it will not only define us as a nation but redefine us for generations to come.
Gandhi said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man”. Most of us never had to live through a national crisis of this magnitude, and are overcome by fear and anxiety. Yet if this pandemic has the power to invoke fear, panic and despair it simultaneously also provides us the opportunity to show our courage, strength and our humanity as a nation. A nation where not only the strongest and fittest survive, but one that also cares for all its members, including those that depend on us for their survival.
So, as you go to bed every night, please remember to expand your prayers to include the animals that are also a part of this nation.
Please rest assured that Animal Ark is currently doing everything humanly possible to keep the Ark afloat. We will continue to uphold and stand by our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome during this national crisis. However, we cannot do it alone. We need your help and support so that we can keep the animals that rely on us alive and safe.
As a result of the pandemic, Animal Ark had to suspend all preparations for our major fundraiser, our yearly 3K Walk which was slated to occur June 6. This fundraiser has always been vital to the well-being of Animal Ark. There is no telling when or even if we are able to hold this fundraiser this year. I am therefore asking you to please find it in your heart to include us in your prayers and, if possible, to make a donation, so that Animal Ark can outlive this pandemic and continue its mission. Our goal for 2020 was to raise $40,000 at the 3K walk. If we could raise even two thirds of that amount through donations, that would be enough to get us through these very uncertain days.
On behalf of the staff and volunteers at Animal Ark, thank you so much for your support of our shelter.
